- Abstract
Since several years, CNES Launcher Directorate is developing technological demonstrators in the field of Engine, Cryogenic Upper Stage, and In-Flight Experimentation. These demonstration addressing critical technologies for future developments are justified through different roadmaps, for different mission targets. This paper will address the current status and main results obtained through 2 demonstration frames that are: -VULCAIN-X: technology demonstration for cryogenic (LOX/LH2) engine with SNECMA -H-X: technology demonstration for Cryogenic (LOX/LH2) Upper Stage with AIR LIQUIDE VULAIN-X overall main achievement will be presented in a dedicated paper. This paper will focus on the Power-Pack demonstrator GPX (GPX includes new subsystems: LH2 Turbo Pump, Gas Generator, Electrical Hot Valve, Health Monitoring System) whose test is plan to start in 2008 at PF52 test facility. The test objectives and test plan will be presented. The perspective provided by VULCAIN-X demonstrations will be also presented in front of the different opportunities at European level. H-X activities are focusing on relevant technologies able to master the thermal budget of cryogenic tanks during ballistic phases and understand the cryogenic propellant behaviour during this phase. The performance is one of the main criteria to be demonstrated with the operability. The ongoing activities performed in H-X frame follow 3 main axes: -First, maturation at technology level. -Second, the integration of the technologies on a ground based macro able to integrate validated technologies and simulate operation on ground as well as in vacuum. -Third, in-flight demonstration in order to simulate phenomena and validate tools This paper will present the main achievement performed at technology level and results gained as well as the preliminary definition of the ground based macro demonstrator and test objectives. The different scenarios for in-flight demonstration will be also discussed. The H-X demonstration is coordinated with the CUST project, part of FLPP programme.
