    Abstract
Upcoming European and national space exploration programs and projects require new capabilities and scientific-technological solutions, and therefore external contributions to innovation.

The use of technological developments from the space sector and varying disciplines and branches from non space is above all traditionally known as bilateral technological transfer: Either as ‘Spin In’ into the space sector or ‘Spin Off’ out of the space sector. This point of view could be supplemented by a third option: The systematic utilisation of the convergences of both fields – space and non-space - from the beginning on. This new approach and the methodology behind is presented in the proposed paper, e.g. on the basis of operative pathfinder projects.

Impulses and innovations from businesses and industry driven research complement established networks of “classical” space activities and, through open and customised collaboration, far surpass a mere transfer of technologies and creates space solutions and societal benefits.

The visionary objectives of space exploration provide valuable initiatives for terrestrial challenges. In this way the technical-scientific roadmaps for exploring Moon and Mars and the mastering of upcoming challenges are directly linked, amongst others things, with the context of the change of climate and resource management on Earth, similar over long periods. The creation of collective innovation through the convergence of these aligned but in separate context occurring potential for problem solving and development, demands appropriate methods, competent mediators and an pro active management.

The way this exceedingly fruitful space sector and industry/research convergence is able to provide an additional advantage to society under the current omen, is presented by operative and planned convergence activities, in which Adam Alva Neil is significantly involved, e.g.
-SpaceInnovation Saar (Initiative of the Ministry of Economic and Science –
    Saarland/Germany).
Benchmark convergence platform links up non space industries with space
    -SpaceInnovation Europe (Network of Regions)
European high-tech regions become innovation partner for the space sector
-European Economic Space Forum (Integrated initiative between non space and space)
    Convergence platform for sustainable cooperation
These best practice resp. pilot approaches represent a systematic and sustainable convergence approach between (human) spaceflight/exploration and innovation in selected non space areas. Examples of distinctive projects and operative collaboration scenarios will give insights into the promising field of convergence initiatives.
