    Abstract
Over the past few years there has been a surge in counterfeit electronic parts, especially from the far east that are being sold through brokers. Chips are being recovered from scrapped units and are being repackaged and sold as new. These parts may have been mishandled and have latent electrostatic defects that might not show up until the system is in flight. Perhaps the biggest source of counterfeit parts are those that are being sold under a recognized manufacturers name, but have a chip within from an unauthorized foundry. These chips will appear to function, but usually they do not have the same electrical parameters or reliability of the genuine article. My presentation will cite examples that were caught and how Space System Manufacturers can safeguard themselves from the proliferation of counterfeit parts.
