    Abstract
The United Nations, in 1999, declared October 4-10 annually as World Space Week. In 2007, World Space Week celebrated the 50th anniversary of the launch of Sputnik 1 and the beginning of the space age. It was the largest space event in human history and the greatest example of cooperation in global space education and outreach. World Space Week 2007 featured over 450 reported programs held in 54 nations reaching students, the public, and government leaders through attendance and media coverage. Examples of World Space Week 2007 activities included the flight of students from nine nations on a Zero G plane, the issuance by the United Nations of World Space Week stamps, and the flight of the World Space Week logo in space. This paper provides an overview of this unprecedented event, its results, and lessons learned about the power of international cooperation in space education.
