    Abstract
During its first year of existence, the "Laboratory of Space and Microgravity Research" (LEEM), has grown from a four students parabolic flight team to a National Student Organization, composed by 83 students from six Spanish Universities and with local offices in three of them.

In this period, LEEM has created the network and tools needed to develop projects involving Students from different knowledge areas and cities. From engineering to Law or journalism students, all cope together to develop space related projects and to encourage more students to complement their academic formation with real hands-on projects and contact with the industry.

This non-profit student association organizes twice per year the “Spanish Space Students” congress, where students and young professionals interested in developing a space-related project can meet and share their ideas. From the first edition, a CanSat Competition and a Space pharmacotherapy project were undertaken, on the second one, the intention of approaching a CubeSat project, fully developed by Students, was announced. It was the birth of LEEMSat-I project, involving students from six Spanish Universities.

During 58th International Astronautical Congress, students from other countries showed their interest in collaborating with LEEM projects, and the first steps towards an International Community of Students working together in the Space field have been taken. As of now, LEEM is closely collaborating with Japanese and Colombian Universities in CanSat, CubeSat and Ground Station projects.

This paper will analyse the road from the idea of creating an association to support Student projects to a consolidated organization, facing ambitious projects and open to international cooperation.
