    Abstract
Since 2001 young people around the world have been stepping up to host Yuri’s Night events each year on April 12th to celebrate the first human steps into the cosmos and the first launch of the Space Shuttle. In 2007, over 126 cities in 30 countries participated, this year over 95 cities are already registered to host events in 31 countries and the event is still a month out. This paper will outline the recent successes of Yuri’s Night, how it has grown to include hosting its flagship event in a NASA Ames hanger, and featuring TV personalities such as the Myth Busters and what the impact has been on the space community, its workforce and the surrounding community. The paper will close with a discussion of how Yuri’s Night could be expanded to measurably impact the public’s relationship with human space exploration and in our community’s own cohesiveness.
