    Abstract

It IS Rocket Science! is a 50-minute stand-up comedy show based on space engineering performed to more than 750 people over two weeks at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland in 2008 to a non-technical audience predominantly under 40 years old.

The show has been created by a team of space engineering experts and comedy writers and presented by a stand-up comedian. While entertaining the audience, the show explained basic principles of space engineering, communicated the benefits to society of the use of space technology and stimulated thought on its future development.

Having initiated a dialogue during the show itself, intercation with the audience continued afterwards via the web and electronic means.

This paper reports on the conception of the project, its design and implementation and provides and initial assessment of it success in communication space to a non-traditional audience.
