    Abstract
Near Earth Objects have been put into the focus of attention on many fronts in recent years. With the potential threat they pose to Earth, the issue clearly is a global one and with half the world's population being under 25 years of age, also one concerning youth. The Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) created a NEO project working group to address some of those issues. In collaboration with Rusty Schweickart and other entities concentrating on NEOs, activities were being sought how youth can get involved and contribute towards the matter.

The project focusses on three main themes:

    1. Legal framework - the Association of Space Explorers (ASE) is working on a draft for a legal framework to be considered by the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS). As a fellow observer in the UN COPUOS, SGAC supports ASE's efforts there.

    2. Asteroid deflection concepts – after thorough research of existing NEO mitigation technology proposals, SGAC invited its members to propose novel ideas to support global mitigation efforts.

    3. Outreach activities – several outreach methods were analyzed if and how information regaring the threat of NEOs could and should be disseminated to the general public and groups thereof, i.e. youth.

This paper describes the activities and work done by the SGAC project team in a global context. Results and findings will be presented as well as an outlook for future activities given.
