    Abstract
NGOs are increasingly influent actors in nowadays world. As the main representatives of society, they could act as a bridge between space and the general public. However, are NGOs conscious of current Space subjects? In particular, are they taking advantage of the benefits from space technologies for their work?

This paper tries to put forward the degree of space awareness of NGOs belonging to the Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations (CONGO). It also aims to find ways to increase NGOs knowledge about Space in order to make organisations able to profit maximum from current space technologies, and to bring space nearer to society. In order to find out the level of awareness of the organisations, a classification of NGOs concerning their possible benefits from space technologies is elaborated and presented. Subsequently, it puts forward the results of a survey conducted to 250 NGOs as well as several interviews to key actors in this field.

Knowing whether NGOs are aware of potential benefits from space it is possible to work on encourage organisations to take advantage of them. Awareness is the first step in order to maximize uses of space technologies by NGOs in particular and society in general.
