- Abstract
Following the results of studies within the United States, more and more statistics are pointing toward the fact that space is seen as a decreasingly relevant topic for upcoming generations. Within the options of suggested strategic paths that can be taken to is to mitigate this is to implement elements of "Participatory Exploration" or involving individuals with discovery, soliciting contributions toward project goals, and creating communities around this participation. In its first year, NASA CoLab has explored doing just that -- partnering with the public and using non-employee time and talent to give ownership, relevancy, and human resources to space topics. NASA CoLab utilizes two-way interactive methodologies, directly engaging individuals rather than distributing one-way communication. Through focusing on infrastructure foundation, public partnership development, and internal facilitation, NASA CoLab is reaching outside of typical space-supporting communities and educational forums with online collaboration tools, co-working opportunities, and other non-traditional techniques to make space more inclusive for all of the general public.
