    Abstract
In November 2005, Canada adopted its first legislation (An Act Governing the Operation of Remote Sensing Space System) specifically regulating satellite remote sensing in the country. This paper discusses this law by describing some important regulatory issues, including the Canadian licensing system, the relationship between the Canadian government and private remote sensing sector, the new data collection and distribution policy, the comparison between the new regime and Canada’s international obligations, legal implications of the sale of MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (the owners of Canadian RADARSAT satellite system) to an American company, etc.
