    Abstract
Shortly, after the successful launch of RADARSAT-2 from Baikonur, Kazakhstan by MDA Corporation of Richmond, British Columbia in December 2007, came news of the pending sale of the satellite and its operating company, MDA Geospatial Services Inc., by MDA to Alliant Techsystems Inc. of Edina, Minnesota. This paper will discuss the business and legal realities facing Canada's first commercially operated remote sensing satellite, RADARSAT-2, as it potentially straddles the legislative environments of Canada and the United States.

Specific discussions will touch on Canadian and US legislation dealing with remote sensing satellites, national government policies, bilateral relations, the commercial landscape, and other possible areas from the viewpoint of the commercial operator of RADARSAT-2.
