    Abstract
    Chandrayaan-1 ,the first indian mission to the moon was launched from Shriharkota,india on 22 oct 2008. The mission consists of a lunar polar orbiter and an impact probe. The impact probe carried three instruments namely a video camera,a mass spectrometer and an altimeter. The obiter carries 10 science instruments for the sytematic terrain, chemial and mineral mapping of the whole moon. It also carries a mini synthetic aperture radar and a radiation dose monitor. The mission experience interms of early orbit operations and the normal on-orbit experience will be dealt with in the presentation.
