    Abstract
So far the radioastronomical back ends developed by our group for Seti activities have been also successfully utilized in space and spacecraft observations and in high resolution spectroscopy. This characteristic is due to their capability to perform fast data acquisition and processing in real time.
In our opinion the development of high performance platforms that can be programmed with any kind of real time algorithms for the extraction of the signals out of the noise represents the most successful approach for the future astronomical activities.
This aim can be achieved by using the state of the art Field Programmable Gate Arrays that combine a fast hardware together with the flexibility of the software.
The target of our current and future activities is the design and implementation of a very powerful and completely programmable platform, composed by tens of ROACH boards (developed by the Berkeley CASPER group at the University of California, USA). Such device is able to exploit several thousands of GOps/sec in order to implement algorithms requiring extremely demanding computing power.
