- Abstract
ESA's Columbus Module was launched and installed on the ISS in February 2008. After a short commissioning period the two External Payloads SOLAR and EuTEF as well the internally accommodated multi-user Research Racks Biolab, Fluid Science Lab, European Physiology Modules and European Drawer Rack started to deliver scientific data. Meanwhile with a total of eight Research Racks Columbus got a very busy scientific lab on ISS which permanently produced invaluable scientific data and allows research advancements throughout the broad field of Life and Physical Sciences as well as Human Exploration preparation. The paper will give a comprehensive overview on the preliminary scientific achievements. At the same time an outlook will be given on the outlook of ESA's long-term utilisation programme on ISS and the benefits of international research cooperations.
