- Abstract
Many enterprises have problems managing the increasing volume of archived data and number of systems used to share information among employees. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) also has difficulty managing and accessing technical information because each department or team has developed its own archiving systems. With the increasing amount of archived data and lack of interoperability, users have to access each system to search for information, increasing the possibility that they might not find the desired information. Knowledge management activities are emergent issues for JAXA as they are for other space agencies. To help users find all useful data and improve accessibility, we designed and developed a prototype cross-search system, which targeted for archiving document management systems as a pilot project. The system seeks to achieve interoperability among systems by crawling, indexing and searching. This paper presents the current status of archiving systems in JAXA, the prototype architecture, system evaluation, and future plans of the next Digital Archiving System (DARC) project.
