Abstract

Now in the present world the security problems vary widely from traditional military security problems to non-traditional ones, such as mega natural disasters like tsunami, earthquake, and flood as well as environmental problems like air and water pollution, acid rain, global warming, etc.  In addition to such natural disasters, some man made illegal activities like piracy and terrorism also have emerged as our common security concern in front of us.

    In order to cope with such wide range of security problems we have to cooperate each other in various levels. Space activities including information gathering from outer space also should be cooperated for such a purpose.  In Asia the number of nations which engage space activities has increased recently.  At the same time, their space technology also has developed rapidly.  Now some Asian nations keep and operate their own high resolution remote sensing civil satellites.  Those satellites might be used for common security concern's identification and its solution.

    This paper will analyse those space activities in Asian region. And its potential and possibility to deal with regional common security problems from outer space also will be discussed especially in case of earthquake and piracy.
