    Abstract
Orthotropic constitutive model and Chang-Chang composite material failure model were selected to describe the mechanical properties of Kevlar laminates. Then, the 10 numerical models were modeled, Al projectile impacting the Kevlar laminates, which conditions were as same as the NASA’s tests and the reference values of the above model parameters were from the literatures. The simulation result showed that the constitutive model and failure model are suitable to describe the mechanical properties of Kevlar laminates; however, there is some error between the simulation result and test result. In order to decrease the error, the successive response surface method was applied to optimize the 5 parameters of Kevlar material failure model. Optimization objective was defined as minimum least square residuals between simulation results and test results. The results show that the identified parameters can improve simulation accuracy significantly.
