    Abstract
【Abstract】After careful feasibility studies, China puts Wen Chang City in Hainan Province at the top of list of candidate locations to accommodate Long March 5 launch vehicle family, new generation space access means of the strongest thrust ever in China. The priority is established out of considerations as maximization of launch capacity due to proximity to the equator, the safety and security of the area flown over, easy transportation of launch vehicle stages by sea, facilitation of international cooperation, as well as stimulation to the local economies. Hainan Space Center is designed to be an environment-friendly, open-to-visitors, and state-of-the-art space gateway with complete and sophisticated test and launch facilities for launch vehicles, test and support facilities for spacecraft and living accommodations for work forces. The construction program of Hainan Space Center was kicked off on Sept. 14, 2009, and it is going to be finished and put into use in 2013. At that time, Hainan Space Center will be the leading space gateway among its peers in China for satellite missions, manned space missions, lunar exploring missions, and deep space exploring missions. In addition, it is China’s first choice to conduct international space cooperation.
