    Abstract
The OpenLuna Foundation (OL) seeks to return mankind to the lunar surface through private enterprise and to do so in a way that it is accessible to everyone, including but not limited to academia, industry, government, and the public. This presentation will detail how the Foundation aims to do that, elaborating on the concepts of open source and public involvement as applies to exploration and space travel. Privately funded, and with the options that opens up, it plans to carry out a series of missions designed to develop the expertise, and build the knowledge required to establish and man an outpost on the moon, while testing from the very beginning the hardware that will be used throughout. OL can eliminating the programmatic waste involved in having to carry out the entire design and testing process multiple times over for evolving mission objectives, by recognizing that what it is attempting to do has already been done, and decades of technological development have taken place since then, meaning that the main challenges and risks of this type of mission are no longer technological.
While the scientific objectives and instrumentation, along with funding strategies and potential technological spin-offs are described in some detail, it is made clear that involving students, educational organizations, amateur space enthusiasts and the general public is a major priority. All knowledge generated as a result of the mission that can be made available, will be made available, for the benefit of all. Finally, every effort that can be made to publicise the mission to the public and much more importantly and rare, get the public actively involved in the mission will be made. A slogan of the mission is: “Your Moon, Your Mission, Get Involved!”
