European Civil-military synergies in the field of Earth Observation

- Abstract
To address European civil-military synergies in the field of Earth Observation and identify potential areas of implementation, a joint Task Force has been set up in 2010 by the European Commission, the European Defence Agency, the Council Secretariat General and the European Space Agency. The proposed communication is aimed to summarize this work and present the outcomes. At first, the European institutional and programmatic frames will be recalled, as well as the importance of Earth Observation for civil and military applications. Then the outputs and recommendations of the final report will be addressed. Finally, some of the first engaged implementation activities will be presented. This communication is also viewed to pave the way for the 2012 IAC session on “Dual Use Earth Observation” (Joint session of the Earth Observation and Space & Security symposia).
