    Abstract
One of the hallmarks of visionary systems is a constant drive towards achieving optimum effectiveness and efficiency, this can be actualized with custom developed applications which tend to reduce cost and increase productivity.
As part of the benefits of space technology and its applications, this research work has brought to light the use of a customized GIS application to manage the Mineral resources in Nigeria. Nigeria is a country blessed with rich natural resources and there is dire need to really manage and account for these resources in an efficient and cost effective manner. This application has shown that this is achievable using one of the tools borne out of space science and technology. Though many tasks associated with GIS processes are tedious, repetitive and rather time consuming. Automating these tasks is always a welcome idea. Major application software tends to be large and so complicated it may take a long time to learn properly.
The ArcGIS tool was customized using the integrated development environment for VBA and arcobjects. This tool was used to show the mineral resource distribution in the country and to show how this can aid in decision-making as related to socio-economic sustainability in a less cumbersome and friendly manner.
