Abstract

Astronaut training is a crucial component of any spaceflight mission and contributes significantly to its envisaged success.
How is training, as critical as this, developed and delivered? How are the objectives for training decided? Which professionals are involved and what tools do they rely on as they pass through each key milestone? When and where does this training process start and end?

The aim of this paper is to comprehensively describe the process and supporting tools utilized by multicultural teams for the development of a training lesson.

The focus is on an experiment related lesson that was delivered to a crew member required to operate European hardware on board the International Space Station. This topic is presented from the point of view of a Payload Instructor and Instructional System Designer.
