    Abstract
The aerospace arena is probably one of the few remaining industries where crafts manufacturing is still being practiced today. Cost factors are driving the supply chain towards global sourcing and outsourcing of strategically low-value components. While the aerospace industry has not gone through the transition to mass production alike the automotive industry in the beginning 20th century, the strategic global orientation is driving it closer to a state of lean production. This C2L (crafts to lean) transition means that the technological developments are skipping several development steps, with the associated risks and uncertainties. This paper investigates the effects of these risks on the integration of the supply chain, from a project management perspective, and introduces several reality checks.
