    Abstract
Since the beginning of space exploration the public has greatly benefited from the earthly applications of technologies originally developed for space and aeronautics.

Space products, services, and spinoff technologies deliver these benefits in a multitude of ways, which is why they have become so important to everyday life. Space products and services are defined as information or technologies enabled by space and used by individuals and commercial, educational, or governmental entities. Space spinoffs are technologies originally designed to support space activity that have come to have significant benefits to other industries and segments of society. Sometimes the practical applications of space technology are readily apparent. Other times the full uses and benefits are unforeseen.

Public Awareness of these benefits is a vital aspect of the Space Foundation mission: to advance space-related endeavors to inspire, enable, and propel humanity.

The Space Foundation, in cooperation with NASA and international space programs, established the Space Certification Program and the Space Technology Hall of Fame.
Since 1988 the Space Technology Hall of Fame has become a coveted form of recognition paying tribute to dozens of technologies and hundreds of organizations and individuals for their efforts to transform technology originally developed for space use into products and services that improve life on Earth.
For more than a decade the Space Certification Program offers a unique branding opportunity to promote the extraordinary products and services that bring the benefits of space-related technology into our daily lives. Companies earning certification distinction gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace by displaying the official certification seal that speaks volumes to potential customers and supporters of continued space exploration.
These space awareness programs further serve to increase public awareness of the benefits of space transfer technology, to encourage further innovation and to assist in the vital work of verifying and validating the important and growing impact of technology transferred from space.
