European Civil-military synergies in the field of Earth Observation

Abstract

To address European civil-military synergies in the field of Earth Observation and identify potential areas of implementation, a joint Task Force has been set up in 2010 by the European Commission, the European Defence Agency, the Council Secretariat General and the European Space Agency.

The proposed communication is aimed to summarize this work and present the outcomes as well as their implementation.
 
At first, the European institutional and programmatic frames will be recalled, as well as the importance of Earth Observation for civil and military applications. Then the outputs and recommendations of the final report will be addressed. Finally, the status of the implementation plan will be presented.

Nota: this paper was proposed (and selected) for the IAC 2011 but withdrawned later for availability reason. The current proposal will also cover the implementation activities done in 2011 and the firts half of 2012.
