- Abstract
This Paper will describe socio-economic and cultural aspects of international Air Launch Project realization and its impact on the launch site at the Frans Kaisiepo Airport on the Biak Island of Indonesia located close to the Equator. “Air Launch” Space Transportation System (STS) doesn’t harm the environment because of the use of the ecological-friendly propellant (oxygen + kerosene). Launches over unpopulated areas of the ocean provide the possibilities of reducing the danger for the environment even in the case of emergency. Deployment of corresponding infrastructure will create all types of working places for the local inhabitants of the Biak Island and surrounding islands. Safeguarding fulfilling all international rules and requirements will be explained. Educational influences and motivation for young people will be discussed for basic school, high school and universities. Touristic impact, relevant hotel, restaurant and general shopping business and influences on medical centers will be mentioned as well. Guideline for all planning activities will be: respecting of all requirements of national and international law, human rights and ecological integrity. The activity shall contribute to the prosperity of the island group and her inhabitants through this modern undertaking of high technology standards.
