“Imagining the Moon with the Moon Arts Group”

This article provides a summary rationale and description for the Moon Arts Group project to be launched to the Moon on a robotic mission in 2015. This project is under the auspices of the STUDIO for Creative Inquiry at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The article includes mention of the recent precedents for art on the Moon including the author’s previous Moon related artworks flown on the NASA Space Shuttle in March of 1989 called the “Boundless Cubic Lunar Aperture” and the corollary radio-wave and holographic artwork called “Moon-Bounce” of 1987.

The article gives short descriptions of the 12 planned projects for the Moon mission, as well as the overall poetic and curatorial matrix that interrelates the varied artistic projects as a coherent yet diverse whole.
