    Abstract
    The hosting of the 2011 IAC Conference in Cape Town, South Africa was the mere scraping of the proverbial iceberg's surface as far as its ambitions relate to the desire to lead the Continent of Africa's development in space exploration. As South Africa becomes more inclined to be a leader in this field, this article analyses whether or not the legal framework presently in place is adequate to a
    allow for such growth . A comparative approach is used to analyze the Space Affairs Act of 1993 and South African Space Agency Act of 2008 taking into account both developed and developing countries legal frameworks. Finally South Africa's international obligations are explored and whether or not they have fulfilled them in relation to their national legislation.
