Abstract

The IAA (International Academy of Astronautics) Study Group on Multilingual Space Terminology has been conducting a continuous work on a multilingual dictionary of space-related terms since 1990s. In 1996, the first version of the lexicon with corresponding 2,614 terms from 16 languages was published.

In 2002 the dictionary was computerized using a database server and some recent internet technologies. The database is accessible from all over the world via the internet, by which you can search for the terms.

Since then, the dictionary was expanded in the point of the number of terms and languages. The current latest version includes 20 languages and more than 3500 terms. The database is flexible for enabling the addition of new terms and languages very easily.

In 2010, celebrating the 50th anniversary of IAA, some of the members issued the printed books of the lexicon by making the maximum use of the database.

In this paper, the authors present the technical matters of the multilingual database, and our domestic experience on bookbinding of English-Japanese bilingual lexicon fully dependent on the computer. Also the future protocol to conduct the continuous development of the dictionary is proposed.
