    Abstract
This presentation will deal with the on-the-ground reality of disaster response, and the role that advanced space technologies can play in this important domain. Major disasters strike with increasing frequency around the world, and professional emergency managers work hard to prepare for and respond under difficult conditions. Space technologies can and do provide important capabilities in this overall effort, but there are major issues with successfully incorporating new tools into the overall response. New and emerging tools such as crowdsourcing and social media have much potential, buthow to efficiently use these has been a struggle. This presentation will discuss the reality of the disaster response world, and the need for better integration of advanced space technologies into this important activity.
