- Abstract
Preparing the technical workforce to collaborate successfully on joint space projects is one of the major challenges facing space agencies and companies in the coming decade. Working closely with its partners in the IAF’s International Program/Project Management Committee (IPMC) NASA is meeting this challenge through training sessions for project managers and team members involved in current and future international space projects. The International Project Management Course (IPM), held at the NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA, has since February 2011 been organized by the NASA Academy of Program/Project & Engineering Leadership (APPEL) in collaboration with the other member organizations of the IPMC. The six-day IPM course provides current and prospective project managers and team members with information on project management activities and approaches in the US, Europe and Asia as well as training in intercultural relations and negotiations skills. More than 40 participants nominated by NASA and the other member organizations of the IPMC participate in these semi-annual courses, which also include presentations given by representatives the European Space Agency (ESA), Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales (CNES), German Aerospace Center (DLR), and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI).
