Abstract

To Motivate students and general public for the aerospace field, it is needed new way of stimulating them. Korea Aerospace Research Institute(KARI)began new programs which can motivate and stimulate the students and general public to engage them in the aerosapce field. KARI started cubesat competition and human power aircraft program in 2012 for the first time since its establishment in 1989. 

This paper presents how these kinds of program can attract students and give them motivation on the aerospace technology and also show the results of these programs as good research and education tools for students and general public.  

Cubesat competition started last August and selected three final competitors from 17 team participants. This program includes idea developmant, assemble, operation of the satellite after launch by the selected students. The purpose of this program is to develop work force for space field by providing the opportunnity of satellite developing and launch. And expand the base of space technology and public interests for the artificial satellite by introducing this program to the Korean people. 

Huamn power aircraft is a popular program in Japan, USA and European contries but KARI started this program in 2012 for the purpose of promoting and motivating the students and general public to have intersts in this field. Students learn team-work and cooperation each other for developing a HPA  and flight experience by his own muscle power will give them strong impact. 

Finally this paper will present why these kind of programs are needed for students and general publice and the way of international cooperation by participate in global competition of the cubesat and HPA program.
