    Abstract
    The State Space Agency of Ukraine (SSAU) has started preparation of offers concerning participation in initiative of GMES. Taking into account priorities of the space policy, the purposes and the tasks of the National space program, and also the decision of Working group Ukraine-EU which is engaged in space researches and use of a space in the peace purposes (March,2003, Brussels), SSAU began to develop the project « GMES-Ukraine »,which direct on GMES Ukrainian segment creation. 
    The purpose of the project is the creation of Ukrainian GMES segment in accordance with criteria, standards and plans of creation GMES for satisfaction of needs in the information concerning environmental protection. Besides utilization of space and ground ways of Ukraine, scientific potential for performance of tasks GMES is provided.
    
    Tasks of the project are:
    Space and other data processing, use and distribution centers of constantly functioning network organization in accordance with GMES’ chosen thematic directions and tasks.
    The organization of different subordination Ukrainian interaction organizations for implementation of common thematic tasks.
    Common work organization of information interchange between the European and Ukrainian centers. 
    Maintenance of concrete scientific technical and information development, and also means Ukrainian means in interests of GMES ’ decisions and tasks GMES.
    Use GMES for performance of projects in interests of Ukraine.
    Priority thematic directions of works under the project are:
    Loading on an environment, especially risks of water pollution and ground landslips.
    Monitoring of a vegetative cover, especially agricultural objects of area of economic significance and forests.
    Information support of management by risks (especially flooding and forest fires).
    Monitoring of the Azov and Black seas and coastal zones.
    Monitoring of an atmosphere and space weather.
