    Abstract
It is a fact that today we enjoy various advancements in modern technology due to the advances made
in space technology. We have achieved so many milestones and as a result, we have been able to go to
the Moon. to explore the farthest reaches of the solar system with space probes and we continuously
have coverage over Earth with thousands of satellites that are orbiting the Earth. However, we owe these
mainly to the acts and deeds performed by Wernher von Braun and Sergei Korolev in their race for space.
Almost all of the space technology that is existing today has been due to these giants of their time who
during their race with each other caused the foundation of space technology to form. While the race to the
Moon was the most important race, it was also very important for that race to fuel the research that went
into it. Now we have the know how and the technology as well as the science behind the technology, but
we owe it to them. This paper discusses the space race between them and examines the accomplishments
of Wernher von Braun and Sergei Korolev and compares these accomplishments, so that space engineers
of today can see and appreciate the importance of these accomplishments. It is also the belief that these historical events should pave the way for the future.
