School-wide applications of ESA educational materials - Lessons learned and future follow-ups

- Abstract
In 2014, the Rosetta Spacecraft and its Philae lander encountered the comet Churyumov/Gerasimenko (67P). The Rosetta mission enjoyed a very wide mass-media coverage, which reoccurred whenever the mission would hit one of its milestones. The mission was backed by both versatile and rigorous educational materials available for public use. Among these materials was a high-resolution, print-and-use graphic file of a model of the Rosetta spacecraft and the Philae lander. The file was printed by 800 copies and used at a school-wide "Rosetta Day" celebrated on an Israeli school premises. The celebrations included 530 pupils, from 1st to 6th grades, ~70 permanent/temporary teaching and other staff members which normally teach other subjects. Shortly review the Rosetta mission, its milestones, its achievements, and its accompanying educational materials; will review the preparation towards and application of a single educational activity, in an Israeli primary school of 530 students and ~70 staff members, will bring valuable lessons learned to light; will discuss follow-ups and possible future cooperation between schools.
