Abstract

The Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) in support of the United Nations Programme on Space Applications (SGAC) is a non-governmental organization, works on the international, national and local level to link together university students and young professionals in industry, agencies and academia. SGAC has a long history, and was conceived at the Third United Nations Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Space (UNISPACE-III) in Vienna in 1999. SGAC holds Permanent Observer status at UN COPUOS acting as a conduit for voice of the next generation to be heard on a global scale.
Consisting of members from each of the six UN regions, SGAC has highlighted the need to facilitate discussions among students and young professionals in the space sector on regional scale. Participation among representatives from many emerging space nations is crucial when considering the global impact of space policy issues and technological advancements. As such, SGAC successfully launched a series of regional workshops dedicated to focusing on developing advanced space technology, enhancing economic and human resources, and building international space cooperation on a regional scale. 
This paper will address the successful pilot regional SGAC workshops in the Asia-Pacific and South American regions in association with Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF) and the 8th Argentine Congress of Space Technology (CATE) respectively. 
The objectives of the workshop were to examine challenges facing the space community, specifically relating to individual regions, and provide input from the next generation of the space professionals and to facilitate interaction between future regional space sector leaders and current regional professionals. The two-day workshops provide an ideal platform for delegates to have the opportunity to voice their opinions, exchange ideas on these pertinent issues, and network. Aside from developing compelling and innovative policy recommendations on pressing space issues, the focus on growing space region in terms of space technology utilization and development within the next decade.
The paper will focus on the recommendations of the workshop discussions including key topics such as:
\begin{itemize}
\item Education and Outreach Programs 
\item Regional Space Agency;
\item Technology and Research Advancements;
\item Predications of regional events in two-three decades; and
\item How to increase access of space activities to non-space faring countries through future regional collaboration?
\end{itemize}
