- Abstract
1957 is a cornerstone for the Humankind when his capability to overcome the barrier of Earth gravity and the screen of the atmosphere was demonstrated. In 1961, with Venera1, another planet was closely observed for the first time. Italy enters the Space Exploration era in 1964 with the S. Marco project. Presently Italy has a solid scientific program with small satellites at national level, as one of the major contributors to ESA and having important partnerships with many other Space Agencies. During last two decades an incredible number of discoveries has allowed to advance in all the science fields of space, the next steps demand new missions and instruments with increasing complexity to be able to answer more specific and detailed questions. In this challenging environment Italy can count on a mature synergy between the Agency, the scientific community and the national industrial capability. An overview of the missions in preparation or proposed with Italian involvement will be presented.
