    Abstract
The visible and infrared imaging spectrometers are very powerful instruments to study all the solar system objects, from planets and their satellites (with or without an atmosphere) to minor bodies. They can provide data for a very wide interdisciplinary science. The solid experience based on the breakthrough results coming from past and present space missions makes the VIS-IR imaging spectrometers a reference point for any future space mission explorers. We will discuss some example of the results achieved so far and hints for the future investigation.
