- Abstract
This paper will describe a comprehensive overview of the Future Utilisation approach developed at ESA. The approach is focusing on two high-level objectives: - provide socio-economic benefits in terms of (fundamental) Knowledge, Earth Applications, support to Global Goals, and Inspiration. - prepare for future exploration missions beyond Low Earth Orbit. In terms of scientific content, the above objectives will be addressed through ten scientific Road Maps, which have been defined in the beginning of 2016 by the European Research Community. The approach also addresses lessons-learned from past European utilisation of the ISS. The approach forms the basis of a programme proposal that will be submitted to the ESA Council at Ministerial level in December 2016 and should provide the resources for Utilisation until 2020.
