    Abstract
By 2020, more than 25 countries are expected to have self-standing capability in manufacturing satellites. New entrants who do not have domestic capability are naturally looking for technical partners. There have been many advanced countries and companies who are willing to provide training and technology transfer. Over the last 10 year, the number of satellites launched in technology transfer program has been more than doubled. However, most of emerging countries are still experiencing difficulties in establishing sustainable self-standing capability. This presentation shows the case of Satrec Initiative (SI). The founding members of SI have acquired the seed technology from a British company 25 years ago. SI has been successful in developing world’s best performing small Earth observation satellites as well as exporting satellites and components and transferring technology to other countries now.
