- Abstract
The African Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in English (ARCSSTE-E) inaugurated in November 1998, with the aims to build capacities for applications of Space Science and Technology (SST) for sustainable national and regional development. The centre has since inception achieved this mandate by development of indigenous skills, knowledge and capacity, through rigorous theory, research, applications, field exercises and pilot projects by running a nine-month Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programme in the areas of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (RS/GIS); Satellite Communications; Satellite Meteorology and Global Climate; and Basic Space Science and Atmospheric Physics (BSS), as well as short courses. The Centre graduated her first set of Masters programme in 2015 held in collaboration with the Federal University of Technology, Akure, after over a decade of running postgraduate diploma programme. This paper describes the achievements, challenges and Future looks of the programme viz-aviz the mandate of the centre for the regional centre.
