- Abstract
Space security has become a hot topic in recent years. Space cooperation is believed to be a major mechanism in realizing and maintaining space security. Regional cooperation, as part of international cooperation, helps to cope with the concerns over space security. This article takes up the task of examining the role of regional cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region and discuss how such regional cooperation can contribute to the maintenance of space security. With the successful experience in Europe in mind, this article discusses possible ways to further space cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. It also outlines the principles and guidelines that should be followed in future regional space cooperation in the region. The article concludes by stating that regional space cooperation is a vital element in furthering security in outer space and that Asia-Pacific region should step up space cooperation in the field.
