    Abstract
Solar power generators are the most common power system used for space missions near the sun. Lattice matched triple junction solar cells based on Germanium substrate are the state of the art in space applications. Nowadays, and due to the need for higher efficiencies and higher power to cost ratios, new solar cells concept are being investigated to replace the current state of the art cells. There are several ways currently under investigations to achieve this, for example, the addition of more junctions, better current matching and reducing the weight.
In this research project, a literature review about the different concepts under investigation for future solar cells for space applications will be presented. Moreover, and based on the available data, a comparison between those concepts will be also presented.
