    Abstract
Increasing awareness for space affairs is one of the tasks of the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI). Taking advantage of the fact that ESPI is based in Vienna, co-located to the United Nations where the UNCOPUOS holds is annual sessions on the peaceful use of outer space, an initiative has been set up to raise awareness for space topics among diplomatic staff to the UN in Vienna especially from emerging space countries like GRULAC or Group 77 countries.
Via the diplomatic channel they can transmit the message to the relevant ministries and institutions in their home countries on how space can improve daily live and how space benefits for civil societies (education, health, e-government and disaster management etc.).
Therefore dedicated seminar sessions and circles are organized for diplomats to highlight, to exchange and to discuss on today’s space issues thus generating awareness for the importance of space affaires. Moreover, the discussions lead to the issue of a specialized report on the space activities in their countries.
