- Abstract
Each year, dedicated individuals spend countless volunteer hours to create spaceflight advocacy and outreach events. This interactive presentation shares some of their thousands of stories, in their voices, and how they celebrate human spaceflight with Yuri's Night, the World Space Party. These hosts and their dedicated teams run unique events that inspire explorers of all demographics, with a central Yuri's Night Global Executive Team (GET) connecting parties and providing unique engagement opportunities such as competitions and projects with partners. The members of the Yuri's Night GET act as planetary catalysts, enabling the celebration of greatness by diversity. For this interactive presentation, Yuri’s Night events from around the world will submit a “playing card” of information with location, highlights, and their team members (all as contributing authors) to be shared with the 2017 International Astronautical Congress delegates. Their stories and recommendations will be united in a truly global voice. “Yuri’s Night Live" has taken several forms over the history of the celebration, starting several years ago as a global teleconference after festivities concluded on April 12th. The concept has evolved to include “party reports”, guest blog posts on the Yuri’s Night website (https://yurisnight.net), and finally, in its current state, a Tumblr feed of moderated photos and videos (http://live.yurisnight.net). The initial focus was to get a “head count” of events that participated and their number of attendees. Those are still desired metrics of the Yuri’s Night GET -- but, like this interactive summary, they are only a slice of the full story.
