    Abstract
The ESA History project is a very successful feature of ESA corporate activities. It contributed greatly to the understanding how European cooperation in space activities is a key element in the process of bringing European Nations to work together for common peaceful objectives. As we celebrate 50 years of European cooperation in space and as a new paradigm for such activities is emerging, researching, studying and putting the right prospective the manner space cooperation has come about in Europe is key to support future and forward-looking decisions. The project has served both the European leel as well as the National level allowing national researchers and experts to find a framework where to conduct their research and publish their findings.

The ESA History Project deserves to be structured in a long-term, lean and sustainable, programme to ensure continuity in the activities, define a coherent and balanced workplan and nurture new generations of scholars and researchers from academia around Europe. The history of European space activities, both a European and at National level, spans across several academic disciplines, among which:
    -	History of science and technology
    -	Science and Technology Studies (STS)
    -	International affairs and scientific diplomacy
    -	European studies (European history, European integration etc.)
    -	History of economic relations

In addition of its multidisciplinary nature such a programme would continue and reinforce the multi-level approach by looking both at the National level and at the European and international one.
A structured and long-term ESA History Programme can enhance the position and recognition of ESA within Europe, and not only within academia, while contributing to raise the profile of ESA, its activities and its cooperation with Member States in the history of European integration.

The proposed paper will present the achievements of the ESA History project and will detail the goals and activities put in place to launch a new, even more ambitious of such a project.
