- Abstract
The United Kingdom has recently revised its industrial strategy to take a greater account of space. So far the UK has been content to license and supervise space activities under the Outer Space Act of 1986. In February 2017 a draft Spaceflight Bill was introduced in Parliament by the Department of Transport. When (if) enacted this will significantly alter the UK attitude to and interaction with the space industry. For example the Bill includes provisions for the establishment of spaceports within the UK and for controlling space tourism using such. A regulator will be installed to supervise how such innovations develop within UK jurisdiction. This paper will review the Bill, concentrating on its congruence with the UK's international obligations within space law.
