- Abstract
In 2017, the UAE announced Mars2117 vision to build a habitable colony for 600,000 humans on Mars. The literatures addressed and explained the importance of scenario planning as a tool to accelerate organizational learning, articulate and test bid business ideas. Research scholars argued that scenario planning is not about predicting what is unpredictable but rather a consideration of multiple plausible futures to test bid business ideas against uncertainties to make sense of the world and to increase success of strategies. This paper attempts to develop a methodology to support identification of plausible space exploration scenarios over the short and long term horizon within the context of Mars2117 vision. By firstly, it addresses and discusses literatures on scenario planning practices in general and in particular to space exploration scenarios. Secondly, attempting to articulate the Mars2117 vision and create a dialogue around multiple plausible future. Thirdly, then attempt to propose plausible scenarios to test bid the vision to increase level and awareness of certainty on how the UAE will be successful in the future. The paper discusses challenges facing development of scenarios at national levels for emerging space countries. The paper concludes with implications on management practices.
