- Abstract
Space Technology Applications in Peru have been pushed since the development of three nanosatellites (CubeSat standard) developed by peruvian universities, those launched between 2013 and 2014. It encourages peruvian government to make an agreement with French government to purchase an earth observation satellite. So, in late 2016 PeruSat-1, built by Airbus Defense and Space Company, was launched and started to operate under total control of Peruvian Space Agency (CONIDA). Since Peru is vulnerable to floods and earthquakes, applications are focused on natural disaster management/prevention and its prediction. Also, considering agriculture and mining as huge activities for peruvian economy, image analysis based applications are implemented for its improvement. All these are managed by the ministries and government institutions. Research initiatives are performed by universities and Peruvian Space Agency, which key topics are weather conditions, air quality and meteorological phenomena. PeruSat-1 is a valuable tool, due to it covers all the territory by taking high resolution pictures and providing relevant data, making Space Technology a wonderful enabler for country development.
